Success in VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM)
We are equally proud of our VCE VM students, all of whom successfully completed their
VCE VM. This year, twelve Year 12 students and six Year 11 students secured
apprenticeships within the local community, while others have accepted traineeships or
transitioned into full-time employment. These achievements highlight the diverse
opportunities available through VCE VM and the strong ties between our college and the
local workforce.

The success of our Year 12 students extends beyond scores and certificates. It reflects their
personal growth, the friendships they’ve forged, and the values they embody. Their journeys
are a testament to the supportive environment at Leongatha Secondary College, where
students are encouraged to embrace challenges and pursue their goals.

Dux Interview:
Alana Lopez Freeman
Q: What routines and study strategies did you use to achieve your results?
“I think prioitising each subject equally is really important. Maths was a big struggle for me
but I tried my best to not give up when things were going a bit poorly. Also asking questions.
That is a big thing that a lot of students shy away from in class. I’m that person that always
has a question, especially in Science subjects. Not overworking yourself. You need to keep
a healthy balance. As I was also a College leader, the balance between friendship,
schoolwork, work and my College Leaders duties proved to be busy, but I always tried to
keep a good balance.
Q: If you had to thank someone in your household, who and how did they help you?
“Mum and Dad – They’re the best people who I could have possibly asked for. If I was feeling
overwhelmed they would support me and bring me back to reality. A lot of people in my
family treated me with kindness. Having people who loved you unconditionally and
supported you each and every day.”
Q: What are your aspirations for the future?
“Next year my plan is to attend La Trobe University to complete Biological Science. I’m really
excited to be heading into an area that I am extremely passionate about and from there will
let it shape my future career directions. Also I would love to continue to travel as I am
thoroughly enjoying Florence Italy and visiting some friends at the moment.”
Q: What advice would you give to other students aspiring to achieve academic
excellence?
“Probably one of the most important things, when you are trying to work really hard, it is easy
to get caught up with comparing yourself to others, but focusing on yourself is the most
important thing.”
“It’s easy to get disappointed sometimes when your marks for assessments are lower than
your peers, but just stay committed to your studies and focus on yourself and be committed
to improving your own skills.”
