    Description

This hands-on and theory-based subject introduces students to the foundational concepts of electrical energy—voltage, current, and resistance. Through engaging lessons and practical activities, students will develop the skills to measure and test electrical parameters using multimeters and other diagnostic tools.

A key feature of the course is the construction of a motorised bump buggy, providing students with an opportunity to apply their learning in a real-world project. By following a structured build process, students will gain confidence in interpreting instructions, assembling electronic circuits, and soldering components to create durable and functional connections.

Throughout the project, students will explore a variety of electrical components and their functions, including resistors, transistors, switches, motor drivers, and—most importantly—microcontrollers. They will also be introduced to the basics of microcontroller programming, helping them understand how code interacts with hardware.

By the end of the subject, students will have built a buggy that can either detect and respond to obstacles or follow a black line using an array of Light Dependent Resistors (LDRs)—an exciting demonstration of how theory and technology come together in a creative and functional build.
