Description
In Year 10 science students focus on relating knowledge gained to the world around them. Students explore the biological, chemical, geological and physical evidence for different theories.
Unit Topics
The Yr 10 Core Science curriculum has been created to engage students in real-world, relevant topics. Physics is studied through hands-on experiments with car safety, and Climate change is studied with regards to Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The final topic. ‘The Magic of Science’, uses real magic tricks to again study Psychology, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
Skill Development
- Analysing data
- Applying knowledge to real world scenarios
Possible Assessment Tasks
- Designing a crumple zone
- Designing, performing and evaluating a magic trick
- Climate change assessment: hydrogen as a renewable source of energy
Activities/Camps/Excursions
Experiments/pracs, class discussion, readings, assignments, modelling climate.
Career Options
Year 10 Core Science provides essential skills for further science studies in VCE in Chemistry, Physics and Biology. It also provides underpinning knowledge for a number of technology subjects and various trades. A pass in Year 10 Core Science is a pre-requisite for acceptance in the Armed Forces.
