South Gippsland Schools Music Program
Leongatha Secondary College is part of the South Gippsland Schools Music Program. Any student who enrols in instrumental music at LSC is part of the SGSMP and can take advantage of the opportunities the SGSMP can offer.
Founded in 1985, the SGSMP is a vibrant and exciting music program run cooperatively, via a Committee of Management, between five South Gippsland Secondary Colleges – Korumburra, Leongatha, Mirboo North, South Gippsland (Foster) and Wonthaggi Secondary Colleges. The program currently employs 15 music staff, who manage 21 various ensembles, that rehearse weekly and deliver instrumental music lessons to many students across South Gippsland.
Learning an instrument at LSC as part of the SGSMP, makes available to every student:
Weekly tuition in a range of instruments.
Opportunities to play in a diverse range of school bands (an average of 4 bands per school). Every student (except guitar and keyboard) who learns an instrument in the SGSMP is a member of a concert band.
Band tours – local and interstate
Performances at major functions, both combined SGSMP events and local LSC events.
Access to VCE music.
The program is managed by the SGSMP Committee of Management and a coordinator oversees daily operations of the program.
