    Description

    The VCE Vocational Major is a 2-year vocational and applied learning program within the VCE. The program aims to equip students with the skills, knowledge, confidence and agency needed to prepare for the world of work and further education and training via a non ATR Pathway.

    Year 11

    Students undertaking VCE-VM in Year 11 participate in an integrated applied learning program at Leongatha Secondary College and will be required to be at school three days per week, one day completing their VETDSS course and one day out on Structured Workplace Learning.

    Year 12

    From 2023 VCE Vocational Major will be restructured with Year 12 students completing applied learning VCE-VM units in a parallel program with VCE units. Students undertaking VCE-VM at Leongatha Secondary College will be required to be at school three days per week, one day completing their VETDSS course and one day out on Structured Workplace Learning.


    Unit Topics

    To successfully complete the VCE Vocational Major, you must successfully finish at least 16 VCE units, including:

      • 3 Literacy Units (including a unit 3-4 sequence)
      • 2 Numeracy Units
      • 2 Work Related Skills Units
      • 2 Personal Development Skills Units
      • 2 VET credits at Certificate II level or above (180 nominal hours)

    Skill Development

    The VCE Vocational Major will support students to develop both academic and practical skills. It employs a more diverse range of assessment strategies rather than exams, alleviating some of the pressure that students face when considering the VCE.
