Description
In this practical, hands-on course, students explore both the theoretical and applied aspects of automotive repair. They will work through a structured production plan based on a chosen repair project, tailored to their individual skill levels. These projects may involve small engines — such as lawn mowers and chainsaws — or, depending on the student’s ability, extend to vehicle systems and other mechanical components. If their skill level allows, this can include more advanced tasks such as head gasket replacements, clutch repairs, and other complex mechanical work.
Throughout the course, students will develop skills in fault diagnosis, repair planning, and the application of industry-standard methods using appropriate tools and workshop equipment. To support their learning, each student will keep a detailed journal, documenting key stages of their project — including diagnostic steps, tool use, safety practices, progress updates, problem-solving, and personal reflections.
This approach encourages strong organisational habits and supports literacy through structured writing and the use of technical automotive terminology.
