The students and teachers at Leongatha Secondary College are honoured to be hosting three new exchange students this term. They have been warmly welcomed by students in their year levels and everyone looks forward to learning more about them in the coming months.
Year 11 student, Niklas, is from Finland and will be staying in Australia for 10 months alongside another year 11 student, Francesco, from Italy who will also be staying for 10 months. Both boys are staying in Inverloch together. To learn more about the boys, we asked a few questions to get to know them a bit better.
Favourite sport: Floorball (a Scandinavian sport similar to Ice Hockey, but without the ice!)
Favourite Australian food so far: Tim tams are delicious. Vegemite, not so much.
Why did you pick Australia to come on exchange to? Because it seemed pretty relaxing and chilled out.
What is you favourite thing about the school so far? It’s really easy and I’ve already made some really good friends.
What do you look forward to doing with your time here? Surf in the summer and try a classic meat pie.

What are your plans for the future? I will have a 1 year Mandatory service in the army after I finish school and then I wish to go to university afterwards.
Favourite subject: PE
Favourite sport: In Italy I love playing Rugby. In Australia I enjoy watching the footy.

What do you miss about home? Family, friends and the food
Why did you pick Australia to come on exchange to? To improve my English and have a good time
What do you look forward to doing with your time here? Go to the Great Barrier Reef, try playing footy, surfing, scuba diving/snorkelling.
What are your plans for the future? I want to go to university and study engineering with the hope of becoming an Aerospace Engineer.
We are also welcoming Year 9 student Irma from France, who will be attending school at LSC for 5 months. Irma is staying in Mt Eccles with year 12 student Jaycee Williams. We also asked Irma a few questions so we could get to know her better.
Favourite subjects: Science, Maths, and Sport.
Favourite sports: Horse-riding, Soccer, and Badminton.
Favourite food: Pizza
What is your favourite thing about Australia so far? The landscape and people.
What is your favourite thing about school so far? There is no homework, no tests, not a lot of classes, and the people are awesome.
What do you miss about home? Baguettes, family, and friends.
Why did you pick Australia to come on exchange to? Because it might be my only chance to come to Australia, and it is very different from other places.
What do you look forward to doing with your time here? Meeting more new people, improving my English, seeing new landscapes, and trying new things.
If you can spare just a few minutes, please make yourself known to the students and introduce yourselves. It’s not easy going to school in another country, so do the best you can to make these new students feel as welcome as possible.
