Dear Parents/Carers,

The purpose of this message is to update you on the latest advice we are receiving from the Department of Education and Training, and our planning for the delivery of remote learning (if this is required).

The advice of the Chief Health Officer continues to be that our schools should stay open, except in the case of a confirmed case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

We understand that, for a variety of reasons, you may choose to keep your child or children home from school at this time. If you do make this decision, it should be coded as CASE21 Code ‘807 – Parent Choice School Approved’ and include the word ‘COVID-19’ in the absence comments. This includes student absences that result from self-isolation in accordance with advice or direction from health authorities.

At this stage we are not providing individual learning programs for students staying at home. These students are encouraged to use lesson plans on Compass, and to contact teachers through Compass or via email if they have questions.

We are working with our staff team to develop our plan for delivery of remote learning for all students at LSC. This will be necessary for the time if / when we are advised to teach and learn from home. It is important our students understand that schools will not be considered to be closed. Our College will be open in the sense that we will be delivering lesson plans and learning tasks through Compass, with students expected to be participating in lessons as per their usual timetable, however in the physical sense we will not all be present together at the school site.

The expectation will be that students are on their device and logged in to Compass for each lesson they would normally have at school. Each day of remote learning will operate on the normal schedule we use at school each day. Teachers will also be online at this time and will take a roll for every lesson that is scheduled so we are aware of students we may need to contact and support to keep them up to date.

There will be obvious challenges along the way, but I would like to thank you in advance for your support of our program of remote learning. We will provide more detailed information about the  program, the wellbeing support that will be available and key contacts for any queries during any period of time that this may become necessary.

Alongside developing a remote learning program, we are also preparing hardcopy materials for those who do not have access to the internet and/or a reliable device. If you have these concerns or issues, please contact me via email or by calling the office.

I hope that you and your extended family remain healthy through the coming weeks and months.

Regards,

Wayne Chester
Principal
